Quality Counts California Family Engagement Toolkit
[Quality Counts California. Raising the Quality of Early Learning and Care.]
Camille Maben: Hello. Welcome to Quality Counts, California’s Family Engagement Toolkit.
[Throughout the video, images of infants and toddlers with parents, grandparents, and childcare providers appear. On-screen text parallels Camille’s narration.]
Maben: It’s been specially designed to help you build strong relationships with children and families in your care.
[In a family photo, Camille Maben smiles with her grown children, their spouses, her grandchildren, and her husband.]
Maben: While as a parent remembering my children’s early years, one of the most important
relationships in my life at the time was with my family childcare provider. I trusted her with the
people most precious to me. I’d look to her for support, guidance, help, and expertise. We worked as a team to care for my children. Oh, we laughed, and we cried, but we always had fun together.
Just like me, your parents depend on you in so many ways. Whether you’re a childcare provider, a trainer, a coach, home visitor, or an educator in another setting, you can benefit from the family engagement toolkit. In fact, anyone who works with families can benefit from this information.
The toolkit covers building strengths-based relationships, understanding the role of the family, cultural respect, and strategies for a shared approach to caring for children. These are the foundational building blocks for success in working with families.
[On-screen, strategies in appear in 3 tear-dropped shapes, coming together: Use a Strengths-Based Approach, Take Informed Action, and Listen Actively.]
Maben: You can easily access this toolkit on the Quality Counts California website at www dot quality counts c a dot net.
