Host: Welcome to How to Develop and Facilitate Effective Training: an Online Series for Trainers Who Work with California’s Early Childhood Workforce.

Hello. We’re excited that you’re taking the time to explore this new and innovative series.

Are you curious about the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to facilitate effective training?

Do you enjoy learning new facilitation strategies?

Have you wondered how to ensure you’re providing equitable and inclusive training opportunities?

Do you want to learn how to help participants actually use what they learn in training?

Yes? Then this training series is for you.

How to Develop and Facilitate Effective Training provides a comprehensive overview of the qualities, knowledge, and skills needed to become an effective early childhood trainer. The series contains seven modules covering a wide range of information.

The first four modules provide an overview of the knowledge and personal dispositions that allow trainers to connect with participants and deliver effective training.

In Module 1, Self-Awareness, you’ll learn about the connection between self-awareness and effective training. You’ll explore strategies to grow your self-awareness and improve the quality of your training. This module also explores the importance of self-care and includes strategies for avoiding burnout.

Module 2, Cultural Competence, will explore how culture impacts training and will provide you with strategies for creating equitable training opportunities. You’ll reflect on how your culture and personal biases can impact training and facilitation. This module also includes strategies for recognizing and responding to microaggressions that may occur during training.

In Module 3, Continuing to Learn and Grow, you’ll explore information, resources, and tools that support effective early childhood training. This module delves into adult learning theory, the components of California’s Early Learning and Development System, technology used in training, and the benefits of continuous learning. This module is designed to serve as a personal resource library. Choose the lessons that meet your professional needs.

In Module 4, Instructional Design and Evaluation, you’ll learn how to design engaging, equitable, and inclusive training. This module will also teach you how to assess learning outcomes during training and create meaningful and effective training evaluations. The remaining three modules focus on facilitation practices. In Module 5, Practices that Pave the Way for Learning, you’ll discover how you can set the stage for learning from the very start of a training. This module includes practices for presenting a professional image, building rapport, and motivating participants. The module also includes a lesson on quality communication skills that can enhance training effectiveness. How to Develop and Facilitate Effective Training

In Module 6, Practices for Enhancing Content Delivery, you’ll learn about facilitation practices that support learning retention and transfer. The module provides strategies for facilitating both online and in-person training. This module also explores the many roles and responsibilities a trainer takes on.

Module 7, Navigating Training Challenges will prepare you for dealing with unexpected situations that may occur when facilitating training. You’ll learn strategies for overcoming resistance from participants and eliminating barriers to learning. This module also provides an overview of Universal Design for Learning and offers strategies to support accessibility.

These modules were designed to meet a wide range of trainer needs. You can take the entire series to build a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be an effective trainer. Or you can choose the individual modules that meet your professional needs. You’ll receive a certificate of completion for each module you complete.

We know your time is valuable and we’ve designed this series with that in mind. The Welcome and Overview section of each module offers tips to help you save time and customize your learning experience.

Continuing to grow your knowledge and skills as a trainer matters. When you provide effective training for early learning and care professionals, you contribute to improving the quality of services offered to children and their families.

It’s time to get started. We hope you enjoy this series.
