The California Department of Social Services, in partnership with WestEd, is excited to share the launch of a new interactive resource, the Social Emotional Toolkit: Supporting All Children from Birth Through Age 12.
This toolkit was developed to support:
- Early learning and care educators—including classroom teachers, child care providers, family friend or neighbor caregivers, and after school program educators—who work with children from birth through age 12 in early learning and care settings across California
- Program leaders, contractors, and professionals who support early learning and care educators in implementing social emotional and positive behavior supports.
The Social-Emotional Toolkit was developed in alignment with legislation, Assembly Bill (AB) 2806, designed to reduce exclusionary discipline practices in early learning and care programs, including suspension and expulsion. It reflects California’s ongoing commitment to supporting healthy development for all children.
The toolkit provides free access to a curated collection of adaptable, evidence-based resources designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice and includes:
- Resources organized by thematic topics, including; understanding and responding to behavior, engaging and partnering with families, professional development and reflective practice, self-care and managing stress, and collaborative teaming.
- Practical strategies and guidance to promote social emotional development and positive behavior support, training and mental health consultation resources, and resources for supporting children and families.
